HOW TO HANDLE A STATE FARM CAR ACCIDENT CLAIM
If you are in a car accident and have State Farm auto insurance, here are some steps that you should follow after an accident.
Step #1: GATHER INFORMATION/CALL THE POLICE
After an accident, it is important that you call the police and/or 911. Even if the accident is minor, a police report is very important to have during the State Farm auto accident claim process. The police report will establish who is at fault and contain information concerning the other driver’s auto insurance, vehicle descriptions, driver’s license numbers, and identify any eyewitnesses to the accident.
If you can, take pictures of all the vehicles that were involved in the accident. These pictures can be invaluable in proving property damage and showing how forceful the impact was when making a claim for bodily injuries.
Step #2 GET HELP
Check yourself and others in your car for injuries. If you are injured, call an ambulance or 911 to receive medical attention at the scene. If you are able to drive, go to the nearest hospital and/or urgent care provider. Often times a person may not feel injured immediately after an accident and this is usually due to the adrenaline flowing through your body. Once the adrenaline rush is gone, the pain may set in. If this happens, make sure to visit a doctor or chiropractor right away.
With State Farm Personal Injury Protection (“PIP”) insurance, you must seek medical attention within 14 days of the accident to have PIP coverage.
STEP #3: FILE A CLAIM WITH STATE FARM
If you are able, call State Farm immediately after the auto accident. You can do this by contacting State Farm at 800-732-5246. You may also file a claim using State Farm’s mobile app
